Single-player, story-driven action-adventure game MindsEye is set to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on 10th June 2025. Developed by Build A Rocket Boy and published by IO Interactive, the game will be available for $59.99 / £54.99 / €59.99. However, despite its confirmed release date, MindsEye remains somewhat enigmatic, raising questions about its connection to Everywhere, the ambitious gaming platform it was initially tied to.
MindsEye was first unveiled in 2023 as a spin-off of Everywhere, a sprawling, community-driven game developed by Build A Rocket Boy, a studio founded by former Rockstar developer and GTA III–V producer, Leslie Benzies. Originally, MindsEye was designed to be episodic and integrated into Everywhere, with assets from the game intended for use within the platform. However, recent marketing and official listings make no mention of this connection, leaving the current status of Everywhere unclear.
Players will step into the shoes of Jacob Diaz, a man equipped with a mysterious neural implant known as MindsEye. Haunted by fragmented memories of his past military service, Jacob is thrust into a world where artificial intelligence, high-tech experimentation, and unchecked military power shape his every move. The game is set in Redrock, a fictional near-future desert metropolis filled with conspiracy, intrigue, and a looming battle for control.
Gameplay-wise, MindsEye offers intense third-person combat, where quick thinking, tactical positioning, and environmental awareness are crucial for survival. Enemies will work together to flush players from cover and overwhelm them, making every encounter a strategic challenge. Players will also be able to traverse the world on foot, by vehicle, or even in the air, ensuring a dynamic and unpredictable experience.
Pre-orders for MindsEye are now open for both physical and digital copies. Those who pre-order will receive an upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which includes:
- The “Premium Pass”
- “Deluxe” Thorn and Kepler Yellowjacket weapon skins
- “Future” Jacob vest skin
- “Future” Silva sedan vehicle skin
- “Future” DC2 companion drone skin
Additionally, MindsEye buyers will gain access to bonus missions built within ARCADIA, Build A Rocket Boy’s proprietary game-building and distribution tool. ARCADIA is described as enabling “rapid creation of AAA content,” suggesting that MindsEye may receive frequent gameplay updates or expansions.
Despite its exciting premise, MindsEye has raised eyebrows due to its shifting marketing strategy and its ambiguous relationship with Everywhere. While Build A Rocket Boy previously faced scrutiny over potential blockchain integration, the studio assured players that blockchain was purely a research initiative. There is currently no indication of blockchain elements within MindsEye, but some players remain cautious about pre-ordering the game.
Additionally, the lack of transparent gameplay footage has led to some skepticism. The most recent trailer showcases only cinematic cutscenes, and the last true gameplay preview was released over a month ago, displaying little beyond its resemblance to a sci-fi GTA. While MindsEye has a firm release date, its overall development status remains a bit of a mystery.
MindsEye presents a fascinating blend of futuristic storytelling, intense action, and open-world intrigue, making it a title to watch. However, questions surrounding its connection to Everywhere, its sudden shift to a standalone release, and the lack of extensive gameplay footage leave some room for doubt. Whether MindsEye will live up to its ambitious premise or end up as another over-promised project remains to be seen—but for now, all eyes are on Redrock.
